Shredding Legal Compliance Issues
HIPAA – The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 requires specific physical safeguards, such as shredding, to meet FACTA Compliance.
FACTA – Fair and Accurate Credit Transaction Act states that "reasonable" measures such as burning, pulverizing, or shredding should be taken to destroy sensitive documents.
FERPA – Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act is a Federal law that protects the privacy of student education records.
GLB – The Gramm – Leach- Bliley Act also known as the Financial Modernization Act of 1999 states that financial institutions protect the consumers’ personal financial information.
